Channeling Betty Crocker, All for Under $100!

One person's trash is definitely another's treasure. Repurposing furniture and finding materials on the street can make for one pretty life-like kids kitchen. Betty, this one is for you!

My neighbor was throwing out this fabulous TV hutch. I snagged it off the curb and cleaned it up. Sanded the top and removed the doors and inner shelf for an open hutch.
Cut a hole in the top surface to fit a plastic container (snagged that from my MIL kitchen cupboards) which I sprayed silver and paired with a piece of pipe that formed and sprayed silver for make-shift faucet. For faucet knobs, I found some simple plastic door knobs which I sprayed silver and screwed a hole next to each side of the faucet for installation.

Snagged this great piece of trash from a neighbors delivery of a new oven (wood insert piece for the delivery crate) and painted with an oil based paint to seal the wood and create a retro windowpane.
I later adorned the window with a small piece of yellow fabric and found a small wooden box to paint and hold flowers on the windowsill. Flowers (stickers) and birds (decals) I happened to have leftover from another project and seemed like the perfect view for my kiddies to spend a few hours in the kitchen.

I purchased the word "kitchen" from my local hobby store ($10) and painted with orange and yellow trim, then applied antiquing crackle to give a vintage look.
Learning Resources Fresh Picked Fruits and Veggies ($20 for the set) and a $2 strainer to hold them in.
I used a cardboard insert from an IKEA box to glue on mosaic tiles ($15 at hobby store) for a great little shelf for extra storage.
Mounted the burners ($5 for the pair) on a black circle which I painted with oil based paint and used glitter glue for the center circle to act as the flame. For accessories, I scoured Ikea ("As Is" section) and found a great metal rod with hooks to use with the pots and pans and hang on the wall.

Found a vintage ceramic oven on the street which I cleaned up (removed all of the electrical wires, etc) and it added a great real life feel. Great storage for all of the kitchen accessories.
I love accessories, so it's no surprise I went a little overboard on them for this kitchen. The Melissa & Doug cans which come 10 in a set for under $10
