First of all, I want to "blame" Meegan @whatmeeganmakes for getting me into making seasonal wreaths, lol! In the past, I was never interested in wreaths, but ever since I was inspired by one of her wreaths, I have been looking for just the right inspiration to make a wreath for each season.
I found this wreath at a garage sale early last fall. I wasn't sure whether I should take those fake flowers off or not...but I let it sit at home for a while.Recently, I was able to carve out a little time to make a wreath out of this, so brown paper bag and plastic Easter eggs became my inspiration.
I cut a brown paper bag in half and folded the sleeve down to make it look like a bird's nest.
I thought that's pretty good, pretty simple, and wanted to end the project there.
But then I saw a blogger named Heather Metzler's plastic Easter egg project that was turned into to look like real eggs.
So I "sorta" followed her instruction by putting one coat of white chalky paint and then used paint that mimicked other egg colors and also added speckles.
I think this was a much better idea!
I cut up some twine to make it look like straws, and used hot glue to hold them together on the wreath.
Initially, I used whatever the ribbon I had at home...bc I didn't want to spend money...but it just didn't look right. Luckily, Joann fabric was having a 60% off sale on their ribbons. I thought the Royal purple and spring green was perfect for the occasion and they also matched with the colors on the wreath.
This was the ribbon tape I had at home..in yellow plaid. I would like to think that it was the right move to get the royal purple and spring green color tapes.
There you have my Easter wreath. I hope Meegan is proud of me. Sometimes, a little tweak can go a long way on garage sale finds. My cost includes the plastic eggs(my kids are all grown up so I had to buy a pkg at Wal-Mart, 12 eggs for 0.88) 2 ribbon tapes which I can use it again, for about 7.00 and 2.00 for the wreath and the 3 bottles of paint at 0.77 each. My time includes waiting time for the paint to dry.
