Upcycle discarded shells into a gorgeous and handy trinket dish. Really easy to do, costs very little and would make a lovely gift.
All you need is some scallop shells, plastic sea creatures, spray paint, napkins and glue.
These scallop shells are easy to get from your local fishmongers, or if you buy any prepared scallop dishes from your local supermarket they are normally served in these shells.
To make these more fun and quirky and to keep with the seaside theme I added a little plastic sea creature.
I happened to have these at home but they can often be bought from a pound/dollar store. First I spray painted the inside of my shells with a quick drying acrylic paint. I also spray painted my sea creatures in a matching colour.
To add further decoration I decoupaged the outside of my shells with some lovely Marimekko napkins. Full details can be seen here http://www.pillarboxblue.com/scallop-shell-trinket-dishes/
For the final bit I stuck my spray painted figures onto the shells using a resin glue.
My trinket dish sits on my bedside table, I use it to hold my rings and necklaces when I take them off at night. My husband has one for his watch and loose change.
