X Ray Stained Art on CANVAS

My friend, LORI, asked me if my X Ray stained art could be done on canvas. I had been wanting to give it a try, so her question gave me the boost to go forth..

This is the beginnings of it and I just wasn't sure about it. The blending is a lot different on the canvas than on the slate tiles.





I was thinking that it was looking more like charcoal and that I was losing the x ray effect. Oh, and this is actually the best picture of the background color. I painted the canvas with grey acrylic paint first. I thought the grey would give the best type of exposure for it to look like x ray.





This is the finished piece, and I think it still picks up on the x ray effect. I have to admit it was more like "painting" than shading even though I still only used my MinWax stain.











And here she is staged with terrible lighting. LOL. I need to get better lighting! No matter how much I try to fix the exposure with photo apps, it just doesn't work.
So, which do you prefer? ~ the slate tiles or the canvas?
I think I will try more on the canvas, but maybe with a white background next time...
